CORSETS
Corsets have been around for centuries but its exact origin is not known but some say that its origin can be traced back to ancient Greece. Earlier they were just worn by the rich but later on they were worn by the masses.
The first corsets were created from iron or wood. Later on whalebone was put to use as suitable material. It started gaining popularity in Europe and later on spread to France and Spain. In the seventeenth century, children started wearing corset since the age of seven. By the end of the eighteenth century, corsets started losing sheen but it made a comeback in the 1800. Corsets became widely available because of the industrial revolution. Now they were designed from silk and satin and were worn over a petticoat so as to bring out the feminine side of the lady as men also used to wear corset for treating back issues.
In the 1900, corset became straight and long with less padding. This led to a less feminine appearance as curves went out of style by 1920's. Now corsets give a gothic look and are preferred by young girls and women.
There is a wide variety of corset designs which are available in online boutiques.
